The June Chicago QWAFAFEW meeting will examine the spheres of ESG and social investing. ESG, or socially responsible investing, utilizes standardized information regarding corporate social and employment, environmental and governmental practices to influence investment decisions. Social investing examines a broader information set to predict the social value propositions offered by companies and their products. ESG investing may seek to reflect investor values and beliefs or simply to maximize long term investment performance or some combination of these goals. The meeting will take place on Thursday, June 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the IIT Stuart School of Business, Room 580, 565 West Adams Street in Chicago.

The panelists for this meeting will be:

  • Charles B. Carlson, CFA, CEO and Portfolio Manager, Horizon Investment Services,
  • Patricia Halper, Partner and Managing Director, Chicago Equity Partners, and
  • John Hoeppner, Partner, MM Social Capital.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • The role of ESG and social considerations in investment decisions,
  • Methods of ESG and social investing,
  • Performance attribution of ESG and social investing strategies, and
  • Your questions and comments.

The moderator will be Barry Feldman of Russell Investments.

Admission is $15 in advance (or $20 at the door) with light food and drinks provided. The doors will open at 5:00 pm., the panel discussion will commence at 5:30 pm and conclude by 7:00 pm. Student price $10.

QWAFAFEW is an informal organization for discussions of quantitative investment topics. QWAFAFEW currently has active chapters in Chicago, Boston, Hartford, New York, Denver, Princeton, and San Francisco.
